Ball Mill Accessory – Feed End Liner

Main Applications: Ball mills, rod mills, semi-autogenous mills, and autogenous mills.

The feed end liner is installed at the feed end. It can protect the cylinder at the feed end from direct impact and wear caused by materials and steel balls, thereby extending the service life of the cylinder. Meanwhile, the feed end liner can also enhance the stiffness of the feed – end cylinder and prevent the cylinder from deforming prematurely. In addition, feed end liners of different shapes can play a certain guiding and lifting role for the materials, enabling the materials to enter the cylinder more smoothly for grinding operations.

Main Materials: Manganese steel, high – chromium cast iron

Characteristics of Manganese Steel: It has a certain impact toughness. When subjected to impact, its surface will undergo work hardening and become hard and wear – resistant. The hardness can reach HB300 – 350, and the impact value can reach 700 Nm/cm². However, it is prone to premature reverse convex bending deformation during use, which may break the fixing bolts, cause the liner to fall off, and reduce the service life. Its service life is approximately 5000 – 6000 hours. Application Scenarios: It is suitable for situations where the feed particle size is large and the grinding media mainly act by impact. It is often used at the feed end of the first chamber (crushing chamber) of a ball mill because this part requires the liner to have a high lifting capacity for the grinding media and good impact resistance.

Characteristics of High – Chromium Cast Iron: It has excellent wear – resistance, high – temperature plasticity, high hardness, a small hardness gradient, high tempering stability, and high corrosion resistance. However, its impact toughness is poor. Due to the relatively high molybdenum content, it is relatively expensive. Nevertheless, it has superior wear – resistance under low – load impact. Application Scenarios: It is commonly used at the feed end of the coarse grinding chamber and can withstand a certain amount of wear, but it is not very suitable for working conditions with excessive impact loads. Currently, many institutions are committed to improving the composition of high – chromium cast iron to reduce costs.
